Four parameters are involved:

Current Portfolio: This is a list of all your investments, including Mutual Funds, Bonds, Fixed Deposits, ULIPs, and Real Estate. Everything except the house you live in should be included

Years Till Retirement: Number of years you have left before you retire. Let's say you are 48 years old and you will retire at 58 years old. Thus, 10 year more working life

Yearly Addition Till Retirement: Total yearly addition that a person can make till he is working

Monthly Expense: Amount you will be needing monthly to met you need. As an example, your current monthly expense is 2 lakhs, while 1 lakh is for your children's education. Thus, you will be requiring 1 lakhs equivalent of money after retirement to met your lifestyle expense.
